Often people ask me:
What made me become a coach?
How did you get here?
Let me share with you a little story...
I'm from Panamá City after I finished my degree in Film Production I started working full time in a Marketing agency (and even though I still work part-time in marketing now I get to choose my clients). During my career the one thing that's always being my favourite part of my job (not only in marketing but also while being a flight attendant in America or all the other jobs I had in my early 20's) is helping others, bringing solutions. Helping my boss with a project, shooting the perfect picture for a brand, share the right message on social media for the target audience... and so on. The constant not only in my professional life but also my personal life has been to be helpful to others. When I'm having a conversation with someone I like to feel that at the end of that conversation the other person is taking away something positive, something useful, something to reflect on and that will be handy in their lives some way or another.
During 2018, after I finished an MBA in Barcelona, I moved to London y started working in a marketing agency. My boss was happy with my performance, I was learning new tools and unknowingly I was about to get engaged with my husband. But I still felt like something was missing...
So I decided to give Coaching a go. For those who have never done something like that, let me explain in detail...
Before your first "official" session, your coach will make you answer a list of 10 - 13 questions, they will encourage you to look inside and be honest with yourself and with that person who doesn't really knows you at all (yet). This coach will even give you the task of making a list of the things you want to work on.
I had a big list, but my coach encouraged me to focus on the 3 more important things at that moment, so I choose to work on:
1. Time management and prioritizing tasks
2. Deciding what the f*ck I wanted to do with my career
3. Work on my health
After our first session I had an Action Plan, and even though that first action plan was focused on one of my goals, in a way it helped me to work on the others too.
After 5 sessions, I improved some habits that impacted my health, I'd shared some self development workshops with people in my office and most importantly I knew what I wanted to do with my career. I was accepted in The Coaching Academy. So far I've had the opportunity to help people in Spain, England, Panamá, Colombia and USA to move forward their best selves and their life vision.
So that's how I got here. That's how and why I became a coach. But after all I know this coaching thing can sound a little vague right?
Now more questions might rise What do you do in a session? Is it confidential? ¿How much it costs? Does it work for everyone? Is coaching like theraphy? Does coaching has any studies that back it up?
