Is fear keeping you stuck?
Last night I was reading a bunch of fear-related inspirational quotes. Let me share with you some of my favourites:
The one that resonated with me the most was:
“I have learned over the years that when one's mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear.”
This made me think of teenager Carla. She dreamed of travelling the world, living outside of Panama, learning languages, finding something that fulfilled her life and others, and finding someone to grow old with. So far I’ve achieved all those things. I’ve travelled a lot 18% of the world according to @BeenApp, lived in 3 countries, had many jobs that led me to where I am today... oh and I fall in love and marry the only Tinder match I'd ever met.
You might think that my plan worked. Well, a plan is not exactly what I had. Maybe more accurate I had an intention and at the same time, I also had a lot of fear.
During my early-mid 20’s I was still living in Panama working super hard, in my comfort zone, dating the wrong people, not loving myself enough and you guessed it, with buckets of fear. Deep inside I still knew what I wanted, but there was a point, maybe one of my lowest, I forgot all about those dreams. The fear took over my life, it clouded my mind and heart.
Luckily, slowly but surely, the right people around me started pushing me (mainly my mom but also some friends and strangers). Then I started to remember my teenage dream and suddenly (it all happened so fast) I took the first step that would led me to travel Europe for 3 months solo, move to Barcelona, finish my MBA, meet David, move to London, start to coach people in 2 continents, then move to Somerset, get married twice in 1 year and raising a puppy.
It almost sounds like magic. It definitely felt magical.
The reality is that for 7 years I allowed myself to be fearful, to doubt my skills, my ability to become and start achieving what I really wanted. Once I woke up that inner gut fire (that’s what I like to call my sense of courage) nothing, not even the things I was so scared of could stop me. Bear in mind, I wasn’t fearless, instead I decided that even thought I still had those fears I convinced myself of the following: fear was a sign that I was on the right path.
What I’m trying to say here is, please don’t waste 7 more years of letting fear stop you. I also wanted to tell you, it’s ok to be scared, what’s not okay is to not taking action.
On that note I would like to share with you some tips to help to unblock your fear and activating your own “inner gut fire”:
Accept and forgive yourself: for any negative feelings or thoughts that you have, and move on.
Take action and change your story by asking yourself: What is the story I am telling myself? Is there anyone I admire in how they are dealing with change? What could I do today that they are already doing?
Again, ask yourself: find a good reason why you need to deal with your fear and use this reason to keep you motivated.
Get a life coach: a Life Coach will offer you a safe space to work with you to help yourself become free of these fears
We all live with some extent of fear. But doing something about it is in your hands.
